Oncidium ampliatum
This is a wonderful oncidium species not only for its flowers but also for its turtle-shaped pseudobulbs. The leaves of this orchid are broad and heavy. The plant is spectacular even without flowers! The flowering habit of tall, branching sprays can easily produce hundreds of flowers on one inflorescence. One plant received a CCM/AOS with more than 2,000 flowers! The flowers are vibrant yellow, some with cinnamon spotting at the flower center. This species is a spring bloomer.
