| This is truly one of the most beautiful of
all orchids. It is a strap-leaf species that is responsible for
the size, color and shape in virtually all vanda offspring. This
Philippine species, when available, is the result of many generations
of line breeding the best with the best to produce the ultimate
in color intensity with broad, flat flowers. Vanda sanderiana is
the most famous of all vandas and has been used extensively in breeding.
However, taxonomists have now classified this as a separate species
- Euanthe sanderiana - but who cares? For breeding purposes and
registration by the Royal Horticultural Society, however, it is
still treated as a Vanda. |
